You’d Think We Had Two Feet Of Snow

We only have 1 1/2 inches of snow on the ground. And yet schools are cancelled, daycares and doctors offices are closed, and the kids reacted as though they would be able to build a six foot snowman when I told them there was no school due to snow.

At 7:30 a.m. they put on coats and gloves and hats and tromped out into the 1 1/2 inches of snow we have in the backyard. It’s pitiful – you can still see most of the grass through this snow. And yet the kids were thrilled and spent almost an hour out there.

It’s still snowing, so I predict we’ll end up with 2 inches before this massive Snowstorm of January 2009 is over. I told the kids that later this afternoon I’d let them go into the front yard to play with that snow. But this morning they need to stick with the backyard.

While they were back there a neighborhood street cat came and joined them. It’s actually the cat of one of the neighbors behind us, but is strictly an outdoor cat. It’s so cold that I feel bad for the cat and wanted to bring it inside to warm up – but obviously Stinky the Cat would have a fit if I did that. Cooper the Dog went nuts at the backdoor when he saw the cat (a cute and surprisingly stout American Domestic Shorthair) so I eventually let him out back so he could chase the cat around (if the cat only knew that the only thing CtD would do to her is sniff her to death).

I’m hoping to get more of my freelance job done today. The guy I’m doing the work for wants the first batch done pretty quickly and I’m just now reaching the halfway point. With any luck the kids will keep themselves occupied today so that I can get most of it done today and can just finish it tomorrow once CootieGirl is back at school. We’ll see.

Snow?!! In SC and not here? We have yet to see any measurable snow this winter. It IS cold, though. We finally have heat again, for a mere $2900. Yowza. As Dad says, “there’s more where that went.” Enjoy your snow day!

I was all excited when they were calling for 1″ of snow yesterday. That never happened. So disappointing.

The local school systems here in the Norfolk area actually cancelled classes today because of a PREDICTED 2-6 inches of snow. Uh, the sun is out now with nary a flake of snow. Oops!

We haven’t seen grass since the begining of December. Next time you make a trip up to the area, make sure you do it between Dec. and March. Snow Snow Snow!
