Wishing It Were Over

Today has been a bad day not because I’ve done anything wrong, but I’m working on things that are completely out of my element and unrelated to the typical practice Mr. BIL does. Instead of working on wills and powers of attorney, he’s having me surf the North Carolina Dept. of Motor Vehicles website for lien forms, and notice of sale forms. He has two separate clients doing two separate things with the NC DMV and it’s frustrating because he also asked me to draft a letter to the DMV about one of these cases and I really have NO IDEA what it’s about other than the dude is trying to sell an abandoned vehicle. But I don’t know the protocol, I don’t know how liens work (I’ve never NEEDED to know), and I have no earthly idea what Mr. BIL wants in this letter.

The problem is that over the past few weeks I’ve been anticipating his needs and have been drafting letters for Mr. BIL in certain cases. But they are about topics I know related to estate planning and administration. Or they are fundamental legal letters which anyone with a modicum of legal knowledge could write. And fortunately they’ve been well-written enough that other than changing a couple terms in the letters, he has said, “Great job – let ‘er rip!” and signed off on my letters.

But again – those were written about topics with which I’m familiar. DMV liens? Selling abandoned cars? Not so much.

*sigh*

I wish he’d just stick with helping old rich people decide where their money should go after they kick the bucket.

Did you ever mention how your review went or if you receieved the Bonus and pay raise you were hoping to get?

Ace – I did talk about it. I got the exact same raise I got last year, so slightly less than 4%, and I got the exact same bonus I got last year. That bonus is basically paying for our storm doors and new kitchen floor that I just bought. My OT and any extra money I come up with through next Saturday will cover the labor costs of the man coming next weekend to install everything.
