Today has been very busy and I can’t believe it’s already 6:45 p.m.!! Where did my day go?
This morning I got up super-early to head to church to set up for the band. Got there around 7:10 a.m. Can I complain for a moment? There was NO ONE there to help set up this morning. Literally the ONLY people there were those of us in the band and the guy that runs the soundboard. Our pastor set up the lights by himself, and the soundguy did the board by himself, and we did the stage and band setup. Thankfully it went well and we had a decent amount of time to practice, but we would have had MORE time if we had even just 3-4 volunteers. I wish this church would have an actual SET UP COMMITTEE of about 12 people that would alternate every three weeks. That would help a LOT.
The services went well – I messed up a couple times in the first service because my mike stand wouldn’t tighten up, resulting in my microphone starting at a normal height during the first song and quickly drifting down, down, down during the subsequent songs. It threw me off completely during the first service. But the second service went really well (I tightened up the stand during the two services and there was no way it was moving after that).
Then I came home and am not even really sure what I did the next two hours. Oh – I know. We gave Denis his birthday presents. Marmie, Pop, the kids and I got him one of those AeroGrow gardens that allows him to grow his own herbs. He has wanted one for a long time and the event finally came around to give it to him. I wish he didn’t read the blog so I could tell you what an AMAZING bargain I got buying this thing. Such a bargain that when I told Marmie I was going to give some of her donation back because her donation essentially paid for 90% of it! Instead she told Denis to use the leftover money to buy additional seed kits.
We had to put it someplace where the cats wouldn’t get it, and opted to remove a shelf from our entertainment center so that we can put it behind closed doors. Since our ent. center has power, we just plugged it in the center itself and voila – a garden that the cats can’t get into.
Then I did my “coupon thing” and threw out the expired ones and went through my Grocery Game lists. I headed out and did pretty well. At Lowes I paid $38 and saved $49. Nice! At Harris Teeter I spent a bit more – about $78, and saved about $40. So once again my average savings is right around 45-50% by having a total of $205 but only paying $116. And that included a carrot cake for Denis’ birthday and CootieGirl’s Hello Kitty cake, which was about $20. If I hadn’t gotten those not only would my total bill be lower, but my savings would have had a higher percentage.
LifeGroup was cancelled today due to illness, so CootieGirl’s cake is going in the freezer until next week’s meeting. Anyway, when I got home I found dinner pretty much ready – homemade french fries and barbecue ribs. YUM. I’ve been on the go all day so this was pretty much my first (and only) meal of the day. I ate too quickly and while the quantity wasn’t huge I got stuffed pretty quickly. But SO worth it.
Now we’re just biding time until the kids go to bed. I got a movie from RedBox which we’ll watch tonight. And then this hectic, busy day will be over.
TWENTY SEVEN DAYS TIL DISNEY!!!
How did you get the great deal on the AeroGrow?
Cathis last blog post..A sure sign it’s spring….
Happy Birthday, Denis!
Cathi:
1) Found the lowest price I could online and printed out the store’s item listing.
2) Had a 20% off one item BBB coupon.
3) BBB has a $20 rebate going on the aerogrow.
BBB does price matching. So I showed them the store printout of the lower price, when I combined the other two things above, it resulted in a nice savings.
Jen, thanks for the birthday wishes and for the gift from you and Beau. Great book. Now if I can only get the time to make some of those recipes. Of course, Jaynee and I are watching what we eat these days so that might be tough.
