Well, last night after her bath CootieGirl asked me to cut her hair. Without any provocation on my part, I might add. I know that she really volunteered for the haircut to avoid having her hair combed out. But I asked her three times whether she REALLY wanted to get her hair cut, and she finally said, “Yes, I want it to look like [my cousin] Natalie.”
So there you have it.
I called the kids hair salon today and will arrange for CootieGirl to go in on Thursday and have her hair officially chopped off. We’ll be donating it to Locks of Love so that another little girl out there in the world can enjoy having beautiful strawberry red hair.
Yes, I’ll document the entire thing – it’ll be monumental since her hair is SO long and, other than a small trim when we first moved here, she hasn’t had her hair cut in any significant way since she was born.
How wonderful! Moira donated 11 inches of hair in June, also for Locks of Love. I love the new “do” and I was quite surprised that I didn’t cry when the stylist cut her hair. Be sure to send in the form from LOL’s website and Cootie Girl will get a nice thank you from them.
How disappointing…. I mean its great that you are donating to a GREAT cause, but sad because her hair is so.. so … so very beautiful… but I guess it can grow back if she wants it to.
Before you go crazy with cutting it as short as Natalie’s, I’d cut it to shoulder length, or the minimum length that you can donate, to see how she likes it. Natalie’s hair is much coarser than O’s and is well-suited to the length she has. O’s hair is much finer and probably needs more weight for it to look right. My two cents.
Marmie – per Denis’ request, we are only going to cut the required 10″ off – so it will definitely still be shoulder length, not pixie.
Glad we’re all on the same page with this. Still sad to see it go, but as Ace says, it will grow back. And it must.
