So you know how I helped that admin (we’ll call her Nervous Nelly) a couple days ago with a huge Word table – basically redoing the entire thing for her since she didn’t know how?
Well a few moments ago a senior admin stopped her near my cubicle and said, “Hey – I saw that huge table you did. That was some really nice work – good job!”
NN just said thanks. Once the other admin had walked away she looked at me and said, “But I had help, right?”
OH. BUT YOU COULDN’T SAY THAT WHEN THE OTHER ADMIN COMPLIMENTED YOU?
Is it wrong that I am more than a little miffed that she took complete credit for the work that *I* did? It makes me not want to help her at all anymore if she’s only going to thank me privately instead of admitting to others that she had help.
Update at 4:30 pm: NN just came over to my desk a few minutes ago to ask my help on the Word table again. When I got to her desk and looked at the table I found that she had completed messed it up again. I was so pissed that I just walked away. I went down to KK’s office and vented for a solid 20 minutes about how frustrating it is that I specifically told her how to use the table and she completely ignored my instructions. KK said that NN is the most difficult employee the company has and that NO ONE likes her. Apparently HQ has brought in consultants on two occasions specifically to deal with NN. And yet she’s still here. :eyepop:
I would stop helping her if I were you and if you want to shine there. You do get a performance-based bonus, right? It’s probably relative to everyone else’s performance, right? Stop helping without the credit from the mangers who really need to know.
Oh believe me, I’m watching out for my bonus. On my self-assessment for my review (which should be today or tomorrow) I put down that I helped Nervous Nelly on several occasions when she was not able to complete a task in Word due to lack of knowledge. I’m covering myself, rest assured of that.
