We had about a dozen men stand up, mostly over 60 years old. I felt one strong emotion at that point – mainly sadness, that so many from WWII have passed on (my grandfathers included), and that no young men stood up – most likely because a good portion of them are currently in Iraq or Afghanistan.
In any event, consider this post to be my “thank you” to the soldiers who made it their lives’ work to secure freedom and democracy not just for our country, but for others as well.
