Last night I got home from book club to find out that CG once again messed her panties during the evening.
I sat down with her and said, “I’m asking this not because I’m mad, but because I just want to find out from you. Why are you doing this? Are you afraid of the potty?”
“Uh huh,” she said quietly.
“Why?”
“I don’t like when the water splashes.”
Ah ha. That’s easy to fix. I led her to the potty and showed her that if she simply takes a few squares of toilet paper and lays it on the water before she sits down, that the water won’t splash. “Next time you have to go, try that and you’ll see it’ll be better, okay?”
She said yes, and we went on with our evening. Hopefully she WILL remember to do this, although I hope that this “trick” isn’t something she is still doing at age 29.
“I hope that this “trick†isn’t something she is still doing at age 29”
Are you kidding? I do that, especially in public bathrooms. I hate the splash. =)
Sounds like good parenting, to me! 🙂 And…I’m sure that even if she doesn’t outgrow it, it’s not like…damaging to her psyche or anything.

Well, she walked out of the car from daycare with messy panties. I made her sit on the potty until she went, which she did eventually after 15 or 20 minutes. But she messed up another pair within the next hour, which is the one you are refering to. Hopefully, she outgrows this soon. It would be nice to at least have one of our kids potty trained at this point going into Disney. LOL
Could she have a UTI?

cristan – I don’t believe so, since she pees on the potty without any problems.
It may be her diet…
someone recommended giving her a laxative to see if she is constipated. But as I said, the fact she went 6 days with NO MESS whatseover (but still regular potty visits) means it’s most likely a control issue. However, Denis and I have many thoughts on the subject and its causes and we’re willing to be patient with her.
