Okay, so this movie The Mist by Stephen King? Looks AWESOME. There hasn’t been a good adaptation of a Stephen King work in a LONG time, and this might end that particular drought. It helps that the movie was done by the same guy that did “Shawshank” and “Green Mile” which means it won’t be some mindless action/horror film but will actually have well thought out characters and plot. At least, that’s my hope.
Seeing that mist reminded me of the time I was driving the scenic route through Pennsylvania from Virginia to New Jersey and all of a sudden traffic came to a complete halt because of this really dense eerie fog. I was in the far left lane, and the middle lane was all 18-wheelers, so I was just kind of STUCK in this fog. After about 30 minutes I think I had moved one car length. So I began to inch my way into the middle lane so I wouldn’t feel so claustrophobic with the trucks. It was when I finally got into that lane that I saw the right lane was completely empty. EMPTY. I waited about 20 minutes and NO CARS drove by me in that right lane. There didn’t seem to be any reason for the lane to be empty. So I moved into that lane and proceeded to drive at LEAST 5 miles, bypassing TONS of traffic. It was very eerie because the highway was lined with yellow lights, which made the night look particularly strange and haunting with all that fog. After those 5-6 miles I saw lights in my lane ahead of me – turns out, they were doing construction in my lane, and it eventually forced me to merge into that stand-still traffic. However, by driving in the right lane I easily saved myself about 3 hours of backup. To this day I’m still baffled as to why no one was driving in that lane. That’s what makes the trailer for “The Mist” look so cool – that night in Pennsylvania was THAT heavily foggy.
Definitely go watch that trailer – it’s awesome and it looks like the movie has a great cast (I’m partial to Thomas Jane, I’ll admit). I wish Ace lived near me because I’d TOTALLY go see that movie with him.
