Unbelievable Day

I have been running since I arrived (45 minutes late) to work this morning.

It’s humid and rainy here, which translated into ridiculous traffic during the morning commute. Apparently SC/NCers don’t like the rain very much and can’t drive in it. I ended up at my desk at 9:45 a.m. – NOT good. This is the third time in three months that TRAFFIC has caused me to be late. And while Mr. BIL has not said anything to me about it, it doesn’t look good. And it doesn’t matter if I work through lunch to make up for it because I work through lunch at least three days a week without him noticing, so he won’t notice today either.

In advance of the office move this weekend I’ve been trying to clear off my desk even as Mr. BIL is clearing off his. So I’m doing double work, essentially. And as much as Mr. BIL tells me to nag him about things to get him to do it, he STILL puts me off and doesn’t do it, and then gets frustrated – well, very mildly frazzled – when things don’t get done in a timely manner.

He’s in a meeting right now in his office – as soon as it’s done I’m going to make him sit down with me and go through my stuff so that I can get it off my desk.

In other news, our washer and dryer are getting delivered tonight. VERY excited about that because I desparately need to do laundry in the next couple of days! And our TV will arrive in the area tomorrow. And our living room furniture and entertainment center are pretty much ready for delivery anytime next week. I think I’m going to aim for next Friday so that gives us plenty of time to unpack and put away as much as possible before it all gets delivered. I also have to verify that Denis is home Friday to accept the various deliveries.

Tonight I think Denis wants to install the potrack we bought. It’s HUGE (which is gonna be GREAT since we desperately need the storage space) and is a daunting project, to say the least. But it’ll be nice when it’s done because we can then unpack more kitchen stuff.

Lastly, when CootieGirl arrived at her classroom this morning she was greeted by two sweet little girls her age, one of whom cried, “CootieGirl!” and gave my daughter the biggest hug conceivably. I have a feeling that’s little Ava, whom CootieGirl has mentioned previously as being her new friend.

Yes, the rain and fog added to the slow commute, but there was an accident on 77 about a mile before it meets 485 which was helping to gum up the works.

We lived in the Columbia (SC) area for 3, almost 4, years. They never get over the rain thing. Heaven help you if it snows. To make the traffic bearable, I just started counting cars either abandoned on the side of the road or in the ditch – cause there’s always at least 2 if there’s any kind of rain.
