Two Good Mornings In A Row

I think my kids have been replaced by pods. For the second morning in a row they were perfect angels and got ready for school in record time. For the second morning in a row they left the house without complaining or whining. For the second morning in a row they all but abandoned me once they got in their classrooms at school. This NEVER happens.

It must be to make up for last night – last night at some point CootieBoy ended up in our bed (I don’t remember him getting in so I must have been dead to the world). Then CootieGirl came out of her room around 4 a.m. crying about being afraid of the dark. I let her crawl in bed as well, only to have her completely invade my space – whether it was draping her arm across my neck, pushing me to the edge of the bed, or climbing into the crook of my arm, or chitchatting in my ear. By about 5:15 a.m. I couldn’t take it anymore and got up to go into her room to sleep. She followed me and thought it was so much fun that we were having a slumber party. Me? Not so much. Eventually, though, I passed out and woke up when I heard the alarm go off in our bedroom.

I trudged back into our room and once again fell asleep, this time in my warm bed. I slept for another hour before Denis woke me up so I could get ready for work. By then he was ready to go and while I was in the shower he at least made sure CootieGirl was awake.

The rest of the morning – which easily could have been crabby – was a breeze. I sent CootieGirl to her room to get her clothes for the day, only to have her come back a few minutes later completely dressed. Usually she brings her clothes to me – not so this morning. All she wanted help with was her socks. CootieBoy finally woke up around 8 a.m. and was in a relatively good mood and let me get him dressed after he went potty (without protest).

At 8:15 a.m. we headed downstairs, put on shoes, scarves, coats. CootieBoy lamented his inability to find his hat and gloves and I put in a quick call to Denis to see if he knew where they were. He didn’t, so I told CB we’d look for them at school. I was fully prepared to deal with a meltdown, but instead he went to the front door and headed outside without complaint.

The only wonky bit came when I turned on the car engine to warm up the car while I loaded them into their car seats. CootieGirl freaked out, thinking I was leaving her. However, I quickly assured her that I would never do that to her, and she calmed down. But her crying only lasted about 15 seconds and it was done.

Who are these children? They certainly can’t be mind. My kids don’t cooperate like that.

CB climbed into our bed at 1:20 a.m. I looked at the clock when I heard him join us.
