Frankly, I didn’t think they were that bad. All the reviews I’ve read this morning claim it was really boring, but I could swear I’ve seen worse than this year’s show.
Highlights:
- Ellen as host – she was outstanding and very funny. Hope she is asked back to host again.
- Will Farrell, Jack Black and John C. Reilly singing about the lack of nominations for comedies. Laugh out loud funny.
- The fashion. I only saw a handful of outfits that made me think, “Oh honey, did you not LOOK in a mirror before you left the house?
- The winners – I loved the diversity in the winners. Not having one movie sweep them all made it much more interesting than in past years where movies take 9-10 statuettes home.
- The opening montage. I loved this quirky set of clips of the nominees. A nice way to start the show.
Lowlights:
- The length – of course the show was long. It always is. Less filmclip filler would help trim at least 30 minutes.
- The tongue bath given to Al Gore throughout the night. Sheesh, Hollywood. Get over it. Although I will say that Al Gore belongs in Hollywood much more than he ever belonged in public office.
Maybe I enjoyed the show more since I didn’t have a vested interested in any particular movie (as I did with LOTR:ROTK a couple years back, speaking of sweeps). Although I did find myself rooting for “Pan’s Labyrinth” as the night progressed.
