This is my ode to BJ and Tyler, who this week managed to take the top spot away from the Cha Chas as my favorite team of all time on TAR.
Why do I love them?
1) Because during this week’s sand dune oven challenge Tyler was encouraging and sympathetic and didn’t bark at BJ. Then when they got the clue and hopped in the truck Tyler had nothing but compliments for the work that BJ did. And even BJ’s snarkiness was nothing compared to other teams (he said something like “You get to bungee jump and I do this.”)
2) I learned that Tyler is a filmmaker who made a documentary about his 2000 mile trek across Japan to find the birthplace of his father, using only a handwritten map drawn by his grandmother.
3) They speak every possible language they need to know. Perhaps this is because they both have traveled extensively around the world. I pray this trip takes them to Japan if only because we’d get to see Tyler jabbering away without a problem.
4) Like the Cha Chas, they just want to have fun. And why not? Getting stressed isn’t worth it and certainly doesn’t HELP you do well in the race. Having fun and just enjoying the trip definitely seems to work the best in the first half of the race.
5) I pray they win. They deserve it since they have done so well. The only reason they fell into last place this round was not because they did poorly with the race itself but because of those stupid sanddunes. It was another “rolling out the haystack” situation from a few seasons ago. But PLEASE I hope the hippies win.
I totally agree. It frustrates me that Miss Alli dogs them every week in her recaps. They’re goofballs and not as funny as they seem to think they are, but they are “glass half full” guys and that’s hard to dislike.
But they are certainly being themselves – if you look at the pictures on Tyler’s personal website you’ll see that what they show in TV is exactly who they are – no playing with the editing necessary. I think I’d LOVE to hang with those guys (and then go shopping with the Cha Chas).
I love how the Hippies are genuinely friendly to each other and other people they meet. I like that they say “thank you” in the languages of the countries they visit. They’re fun, and I hope they can make up some time on the next episode!! The other teams are comparatively boring and/or cranky.
well i love them too.
they always stay positive
and are dam happy all the time
i felt so bad for BJ when he had to dug up all those sand but hey i was soo happy they are still in it after all of that unfortunate luck in Oman.
Go hippies!
