Okay, so here are my comments on various things I saw on TV last night.
*IF SPOILERS ARE A ROCKIN’, DON’T COME A KNOCKIN’*
AI5 – We all knew it was her time to go so there’s no surprise there. But I WAS surprised that it was Elliott in the bottom two instead of Katherine, considering Katherine’s horrible rendition of “Against All Odds”.
TAR9 – So the hippies DID threaten MoJo with the yield. Big deal. MoJo have no sportsmanship. And I continue to hate the Frats. But I love that with all the bunching that took place last night it included a big bunch at the mat! That RARELY happens. BJ made a big mistake by 1) not wearing shoes and 2) trying to take the rocks instead of the bridge.
Lost – boy howdy I love this show. Weeks go by where not much happens, and then in five minutes their whole world gets turned upside down. Last night’s last few minutes almost played like a season finale, not a regular show. Great stuff which had me laughing out loud in disbelief!
Invasion – Am I the only one still sticking with this show? It had a few episodes there where it almost lost me, but I stuck with it and am happy I did. It’s a decent show.
In other news, the Turner Classic Movies channel is running a “special” this month called “Race and Hollywood” featuring Black Images on Film. A couple nights ago they aired 1915’s “The Birth of a Nation” which I had heard a lot about but had never seen. Now I only saw the last 30-45 minutes, but wow, what a racist movie that one is. I couldn’t believe some of the things that movie did – portraying the KKK as “good guys”, for one. I flipped through the Tivo list of TMC movies and saw a few others that might be worth watching. I Tivo’d a 1928 version of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and started watching that last night. Yet another example of blatant disregard for facts, and the author commentator featured on TCM said that the movie obviously veers far from Harriet Beecher Stowe’s book and instead of focusing on Tom, the movie focuses on two mulatto characters. I’m only 40 minutes in at this point (it’s over 2 hours long) but I’ll finish watching it. Silent movies are tough though. SO overacted it’s almost painful to watch.
Oh, and if you are a fan of cult classic movies: TCM is airing your favorite circus movie, “Freaks”, sometime this week. Check your Tivo list and watch it, if you never have. I remember watching it when I was in college – I just couldn’t look away.
Lastly in TV news: Kathy Griffin fans! Her new stand-up special airs on May 9 on Bravo, it’s called Kathy Griffin: Strong Black Woman and judging by the clip I saw it will NOT disappoint!
A propos of nothing:
EDMONTON, Alberta – Call it “the cootie effect.†Researchers at the University of Alberta School of Business in Canada say they’ve found shoppers are much less likely to buy an article of clothing if they think another person has already touched it.
I’m not listening to your stuff about LOST and Invasion, altough I did see your query about anyone else watching Invasion. I am. But I’m two weeks behind on the DVR.
Don’t worry – I gave away NO spoilers for Lost and Invasion. Just commented on the general episode as being good or bad.
I love TCM (much better than AMC imho). I didn’t even realize they have a special theme this month. Thanks for the notice, I gotta go check out there schedule and see what looks good.
Jimmy – the special theme only runs on Tuesday and Thursday nights. They air “regular” movies all other days/nights.
I called it: Elliott and Paris with Paris going home in the bottom two. Whoo Hoo!!!
