AI5 was just painful last night. Seriously. And not just because it was Stevie Wonder night.
Look, when I was a kid I used to listen to “Songs in the Key of Life” all the time – I spent a few months listening to ONLY that album in my parents’ basement. But now I can’t stand Stevie Wonder’s music. Especially since 75% of all AI5 contestants have insisted on singing it this season.
So to dedicate AN ENTIRE NIGHT to his music? Ugh. I knew I’d have a headache by the end of it.
**SPOILER ALERT**
To sum up, Ace needs to go – when he’s not wearing his skullcap he’s useless. He can’t sing. Seriously. And his hair is just tragic. He needs to leave the competition swearing to never sing again and NEVER be seen without the skullcap.
Bucky looked like a mustachioed girl last night. And he wasn’t good either although out of all the Stevie Wonder songs he picked the one most suited for himself.
Melissa sang a song other than the one she planned for, which sucks for her because it means she’s going home. And that’s not right, because…
Kevin NEEDS to go home. I’m over him. Wait, was I ever NOT over him? CHICKEN LITTLE BE GONE!
Mandisa rocked it. Elliot was fantastic. Lisa Tucker was just okay.
Kellie Pickler. Last night I was struck again by her dumbness – but I got a glimmer last night and I think she’s BRILLIANT. She knows EXACTLY what she’s doing and that whole act is a put on. If you Tivo’d last night and still have it – watch her one on one with Ryan again and tell me you don’t see it. She’s WORKIN’ IT.
That leaves us with the final four: Katherine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett and Chris Daughtry. Katherine was wonderful although her dress made her look preggers again and also like a reject from The Carpenters or Lawrence Welk. Paris was a bit much last night – uberannoying when she insisted on answering Ryan’s questions with song. She showed her age by doing that. Taylor was absolutely fantastic and I loved how the producers would pan far FAR back whenever he started twitching on stage. They did it over half a dozen times during his song and ONLY when he began twitching. I’d see him in concert in a heartbeat.
Last but certainly not least, Chris Daughtry. Does he have this competition sown up or WHAT? He was UNBELIEVEABLE last night and I think the only way this guy could lose is if he is forced to do a disco week. Even then I don’t know if he’d fail because he could put a rock twist on a song and turn it out, I’m sure.
Hmmm. I totally forgot about Ace. He was terrible.
I think Chris is the AI this year. I’ll be really surprised if he doesn’t win the whole thing. He is definitely the most consistent and best at doing his thing.
Disagree ~ it’s going to be down to Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee. Love them both. Agree that Taylor is the one I’d spend money to see.
You only say that because Chris doesn’t sing the kind of music that you would normally listen to. So far we haven’t had a true ROCK AI winner. We’ve had pop, r&b, r&b and country. The time has come for a ROCK person to win this contest, and I think Chris is just the man to do it! :luvlove:
I may cry if Chris doesn’t win! I think he’s got it wrapped up too. Although the audience reaction to Taylor was unbelievably loud so maybe he’s got major fan support. I’d be ok with that but I wouldn’t mind Chris’s face splattered everywhere when he wins š
