Oh yes they did! Seven of the 12 guys did a fabulous job. Two desperately need to go home. And the remaining four guys were average enough to make it through another round.
The particularly fabulous:
My Main Man Taylor Hicks doing “Levon” – he showed that he doesn’t just do Ray Charles/Joe Cocker imitations. I love his pure joy found in singing.
Ace Young – okay, he’s hot. We get that. But he can actually sing, too! I feared his song choice at first, but he actually did really really well.
The particularly wretched:
Bobby Bennet – do you think he chose to sing “Copa Cabana” because he knew he’d get booted the first week anyway? I was very surprised Simon didn’t mention anything about being held captive on a cruise ship after that performance.
Sway Penala – I just don’t get why people like him. I thought his performance was hideous last night and was SHOCKED when Randy and Paula both applauded enthusiastically. Denis and I even rewound to listen again to see what we were missing – but couldn’t find a single thing about his performance that we liked.
Pleasantly surprised:
Gedeon McKinney – sure, he’s cocky as all get out, but he’s good. I really liked his performance last night. Don’t know if I’ll like him throughout the entire season, but last night he struck gold. Smile and all.
Patrick Hall – we didn’t really see him much until Hollywood week and even then we only saw him for about two minutes. But he did a nice job and has a nice voice. During his song I didn’t watch the tv at all – I just listened to his voice. And I liked it.
Probably the ones to go home: Bucky Covington and Bobby Bennett.
I’m a stalker of your AI postings….I swear I checked several times today. (moving on)
I’m not a big Sway fan either, but that one note he hit was incredible. That alone should save him. I can’t wait to see what Taylor has in future song choices….he’s incredible!
Completely unrelated…your hair matches your blog.
Hi, KJ.
