TV: 2007 Will Be Remembered For (Mostly) Crappy Finales

**MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW**

American Idol 6: Ugh. They were both hideously bad last night. Seriously. You knew that the minute Blake chose to go first he didn’t want to win. You also knew that given his lackluster performance of The Big Song, which is just as sappy and horrible as anything the previous winners had to sing. I was really hoping that the songwriting contest would give us a fresh fun song. Not so, and those two dorks who won should be ashamed of themselves. Poor poor Melinda.

Veronica Mars, Series Finale: Another ugh. Creator Rob Thomas had to know that his show was most likely going off the air and should have prepared for it. Instead we got a lackluster two-hour finale that was all magically sewn up in the last fifteen minutes but still had NO resolution on certain issues (the chief one being will she choose Piz or Logan (Logan, please!)). In a phrase: the finale sucked. What an awful way to end an otherwise great show. Seriously. What’s with Jack Kane moving back to town? What’s with Dick suddenly decided to be nice? What’s with Piz – is he staying in Neptune after all? Will Papa Mars win the election? I don’t know the answers because Rob Thomas didn’t bother addressing those questions. The only highlight? Enrico Colantoni’s performance (he plays Veronica’s dad). He gave it everything in that finale and did a GREAT job. Can’t wait for him to get picked for another show – I will definitely watch.

Dancing With The Stars: I didn’t see the finale, but I was pleased to see who won. He was REALLY good all season and by the end was the one who almost seemed like a real ballroom dancer instead of a speedskater playing at being a ballroom dancer.

Heroes: A lot of good things happened in the season finale. However, I have two major complaints. The battle with Sylar? TOTALLY SUCKED. So much for being a big bad. Seriously. There were at one point NINE Heroes around him (admittedly, two were shot) and two regulars people, and yet they simply decide that Hiro stabbing him with the samurai sword is ENOUGH? No way. At least Buffy gave us great hand-to-hand combat that lasted at least a minute or so before she killed Angel in Season Two. Sylar should have been BEAT DOWN by the Heroes. Instead he (according to the last shot) crawls into the sewer and escapes everyone’s notice in their grief over Peter and Nathan shooting into the sky to detonate. My other complaint has to do with the sappy scene in the rooftop garden between Dead-Charles and Dream-Peter. I was knee-deep in it at my house – what a badly written scene. Did they suddenly hand a pen over to a 13-year-old girl to write that one?

Lost: That one is on tonight. It had better not suck.

Fun programming this summer: Hell’s Kitchen 3 (YAY!!), Big Brother (YAY!!), On The Lot (which started last night and looks very promising), The 4400 (YAY!!), So You Think You Can Dance, The Biggest Loser. Wow – reality tv heaven for the most part! *lol*
