Those two words kind of sum up the morning and evening here in South Carolina. This morning Denis and I were awakened to AMAZINGLY loud shake-the-rafters thunder. Possibly the worst thunder I’ve ever been around. And lightning that lit the room like it was daytime. Miraculously, the kids didn’t wake up and run into our room. However, because of the constant rolls of thunder we were unable to go to sleep again.
I finally got up and got ready for church. I was asked to come in and run sound, and when I read “run sound” I thought it meant set up sound. Nope – it meant RUN SOUND FOR THE WHOLE SERVICE. BY MYSELF. I was freaked out because 1) I’ve never set up sound by myself with NO ONE to guide me, and 2) I’ve never run sound by myself with NO ONE to guide me. At some point I got frustrated because I couldn’t ever hear anything in the headphones despite the board showing the MP3 player was playing, so we put in a call to a guy that runs our board that had to work this morning and he provided some quick help desk and saved us. The service went well and I didn’t blow up anything, so it was a good morning.
The afternoon went quietly for a while. The kids were typically rambunctious and while I tried to harness the energy it just wasn’t happening and they kept bickering. Finally, just to keep them apart I took CootieGirl to the pool for the hour before it closed. Upon arriving home I got her into her pjs and sent her to Denis for dinner while he sent CootieBoy upstairs to go to bed.
And just as he was settling into sleep, the lightning started, the the thunder. And a special report came on tv saying that storm warnings were in effect for the area through 9 p.m. Seems like the worst has actually passed our way, but you never know if it’ll change direction and head southwest again before heading east for good.
Oh, and I’m sunburned. Three hours at the pool yesterday – 90 minutes with each child – in the constant sun reflecting off the water, and I’m a bit lobstery today.
Okay, big lightning and thunder cracked at the same time, so I’m logging off for the night.
Oh final bit of news – I sold an ACEO today at Etsy! YAY!!!!
congrats on the ACEO.
i did not hear a sound last night…i actually was surprised when i saw the ground was wet on the way out for church this morning.
Amy – it’s Monday morning now. SURELY you heard last night’s spectacle. We almost grabbed a video camera so we could record the rolls of thunder because they’d last for a good 20 seconds and then the next one would start right in.
Yes, Lexi woke me up after she fell out of Emma’s bed last night and then I couldn’t get back to sleep because of the storm. That was one serious storm last night. Scott didn’t hear a thing though.
