On Saturday we both slept in a bit (8 a.m.!) then after we got ready we hit the nearby Shoney’s for a crappy breakfast. Then we hit the road and within 10 minutes we were on our street and pulling up to our lot. A truck was sitting on the street and a guy in a Bobcat was on the lot. We got out of the car and in moments the man was introducing himself to us as the seller. He turned out to be one of the nicest guys I’ve met in a long time.
The true definition of a “good ole Southern boy”, he was friendly, helpful, informative and as genuine as can be. We spent the next couple of hours on the lot with him, but he also introduced us to our future neighbors (sadly, their names escape me right now!). He sold them their land and built their house and we were delighted to take a tour and see his handiwork. I think Denis and I were both thoroughly impressed and hope to use him to build our house as well. I think we’ll get along well with our neighbors because we had a lot in common. She and I work in the same industry (in fact, she used to work for The Company in their Charlotte office) and he works for the Department of Homeland Security. They have two sons, ages 10 and 6 who were so polite and nice to us.
The seller told us about the lot, the street, the neighborhood and just generally made us feel 100% confident that we were buying the right land from the right seller at the right time in the right town. It just all kind of came together.
At some point while we were talking to the seller, a van pulled up. A woman rolled down the window and called, “Jaynee?” It turned out to be Amy, a woman that I met online via the blogs and emailed with when I was researching Fort Mill in early 2004. She knew we were in town and planning on visiting the lot, so on her way to run errands she stopped by the lot to see if we were there. It was such a pleasure to finally meet her face to face, although we were only about to spend a few minutes together. We had hoped to get together sometime over the weekend to hang out but schedules didn’t permit. Hopefully we’ll get back down to Fort Mill in the summer so that we can try to meet up again.
