I feel like we didn’t even get a weekend because it was so busy. I can’t remember the last time we had a truly “do nothing” weekend but it’s been over a month at least.
This weekend was our church’s big Easter Egg Hunt. It’s one of the bigger events around town and it went really well – the weather was PERFECT and the kids were eager to have a good time. I’m confident we had more attendees than we had last year. I know we took a LOT of pictures (over 600). Like last year, I manned the “Pictures with the Easter Bunny” booth. It was a good way to meet lots of kids and parents and yet socialize with Lorna, a woman from church that I don’t get to talk to that often.
Our friend Obi agreed to watch CootieBoy throughout most of the morning, while Denis followed CootieGirl around while also documenting the entire event for the church’s posterity. Obi did a great job of letting CootieBoy get all messy with his Sno-Cone and Cotton Candy. At one point Obi said he was sitting under the tent with CootieBoy and told CootieBoy to go ahead and wipe his messy hands on Obi’s jeans. Apparently a woman sitting nearby said, “You know, you can get him some napkins,” to which Obi replied, “Oh that’s okay, I’m doing laundry this week.” I had to laugh when he told me that story because I’m confident the woman thought that Obi was a mess of his father who was going to grow up with a son that wiped his hands on his pants instead of using napkins like everyone else.
When we got home the kids fell into bed for some short naps and Denis and I did some stuff around the house. We were just so exhausted that we didn’t get too much done, but the attempt was made.
Yesterday was Easter Sunday and was a nice day. After church Denis did some yardwork in the backyard while I entertained the kids during their alternating naps. Dinner was leg of lamb with garlic mashed potatoes and creamy vegetables. It was delish!
All in all a good weekend, albeit very tiring.
Books: Whatcha reading?
You weren’t enjoying Speaker for the Dead – have you read the parallel “sequels”? I am enjoying them a lot – Ender’s Shadow was good and so far Shadow of the Hegemon is pretty good, too. I love Bean.
I’m trying to read through a bunch of my pulp fiction so that I can feel like I’m getting through my stack – nora roberts, danielle steel, etc.
Yeah, I hear ya.
I haven’t set anything up with the guys for the Superbowl. I’d prefer staying local or even home and cooking wings and stuff for everyone, but it might to get my NYers out there.
