Well, after having great difficulty finding anywhere to go with our free week, we’ve opted to stay local instead of going exotic (since nothing exotic was available ever).
No Aruba. No Belize. No Canary Islands. No Bermuda. No Montreal. No Victoria, BC.
We’re going to Florida.
I know, it sounds boring after all the pleasure of seeking Aruba and the like. But Florida was available. So there you have it.
Specifically, we’ll be in Southern Florida, near Ft. Lauderdale. At the Vacation Village at Weston. RCI members gave it solid reviews so I’m comfortable with our choice.
It’s 10 miles from Fort Lauderdale, 25 minutes from the beach, has lots of touristy stuff around, and is close enough that we can visit our friends Ted and Anne, who recently moved down to that region of Florida.
Better yet, airfare is cheap ($300 for the two of us combined) and we can just rent a small little compact car for as little as $162 for the whole week. That’s a $500 vacation for a week, folks.
We’ll be going in mid-May 2006 and I’m already looking forward to spending a lot of time in that pool featured on the resort’s website.
And it makes me even more excited about losing weight and getting fit – I look forward to waterskiing, windsurfing, and whatever else is available to do down there. Fifty pounds this year (16% of the way there already), another twenty or so before next May? I’ll look like I did on my wedding day for our ninth anniversary vacation. I’ll take it!
Hi! I have never commented before but had to having seen Victoria, BC as a destination. I live (born and raised) in Victoria and if you have a chance you should definately visit. I must admit I am most times oblivious to what a great place it is but everyone who visits loves it! I have to say I love your blog and agree most times with your takes on AI and AR being a reality tv junky myself. I have two boys a 3 yr old and 8 month old and also enjoy reading about your two adorable kiddies!
Hi, donno if you remember me.. the tree fell and I met dennis over the summer? i was there the kid with the camera? We use RCI as well, we are going to aruba in april, but those plans were made LOoooOOng in advance, with those timeshares you gotta make the reservation a long time in advance or you’ll get totally beasted out of the places you want to go to.
Holly, Jaynee has been to Victoria before – so she knows it’s great. I agree that it is a great place to visit and would love to go back sometime myself.
Jaynee, Ft. Lauderdale? :rotfl:
Jen – I may have been to Victoria (for an afternoon) but I hardly remember it. I was too busy being an immature teenager to appreciate the town.
