The US Open

The US Open last night was fun! Just like last year, we had seat’s in my friend’s corporate suite – free food, goodie bags, and a great view of the tennis court. We witnessed Jennifer Capriati soundly trounce her opponent who looked completely overwhelmed to be there. Then the Roddick/Verkerk match started, but by the time they were done with their first set it was pretty late, so we didn’t stay much longer.

It was great to see Meredyth and Jonathan (Meredyth is the one that got us the tickets). They recently got engaged and it’s plain to see how happy they are together. Her ring is wonderful – very old-fashioned and yet completely contemporary (it has blue sapphires as well as diamonds).

Meredyth was very generous with us and gave us lots of goodies to take home. Tennis balls, baseball caps, fleece jackets, bags, sunglasses, a bottle of wine, and Denis won the raffle and got a free pay-as-you-go cellphone (which he’s happy about since he hates his cellphone).

We got home late – about 12:30 a.m., so I’m very tired. I’m used to being in bed by 11 p.m., so this was a rare night for me. I also feel bad about Cooper being in his crate for much of the day (pretty much all day). Luckily we called our neighbors and they sent their son over around 6 p.m. to let Cooper out for a romp in the yard. Our neighbors are a God-send to us – we need to get them REALLY good Christmas gifts this year to thank them for all their help.
