CootieBoy has no complaints about the production of “The Lion King” that he saw today. Mama has one, but it is relatively minor.
CootieBoy did GREAT at his very first play. I couldn’t be more proud of him. We arrived at the theater about 45 minutes before showtime and he munched on some Goldfish crackers that I bought from the snack stand. Our seats were excellent – about the 10th row, center orchestra. Once CootieBoy had a booster seat added to raise him up a bit, he was good to go. A few minutes later the lights went down and he was mesmerized for the entire first act. He LOVED the animals walking down the aisles, and was wide-eyed and enthralled for the whole thing.
When the lights came up for intermission, he thought it was over, and when I informed him that there was more to come he got very excited. The lines at intermission were hideously long, but fortunately I had saved some of the Goldfish crackers so we stayed in our seats for most of the intermission.
During the second act CootieBoy got bored in a couple spots (notably a couple of the solos in which NOTHING was going on onstage other than the lone singer). Fortunately he was content to snuggle in my lap during those two songs.
My only quibble with the production was that the sound was not well mixed. Several times the music overwhelmed the singers, and sometimes I could hear the harmony singers MUCH better than the folks singing the melody. It was frustrating because I predict it was just a lazy soundman taking the day off (after all, this was the final performance of the show in Charlotte).
All in all a nice afternoon together and he is now happy to be home watching “Curious George” with his sister.
