Does anyone remember the last time a major vice presidential candidate was a mid first-year term governor with no experience in a national office?

    1968–Spiro Agnew

Not a sermon, just a thought.

This first-term governor is an entirely different sort ~ she actually has integrity.

Pretty good post though, right? And Bill, you are one of the few “Fair and Balanced” political posters I’ve seen in the blogosphere. You don’t seem to be taking sides, unlike me and many others (right-wingers) I know. I suspect you lean to the right, but it’s good to see you are fair and balanced, unlike some news station I know that claims to be that way.

And yes, Palin is full of integrity if you’re using George Bush as your yardstick. Last month, the Alaskan Legislature vote 12-0 to investigate her for abuse of power. Hmmmm…let me think, who do I know who has disregarded the U.S. Constitution and abused his presidential power. Hmmmmmm… Can you say “More of the Same”?

Maybe I’m fair and balanced because I have no principles. At least they are constantly evolving. I do line up with George F. Will and William F. Buckley, Jr. (It was the latter who said George W. may be conservative, but he is not a Conservative.) Also James J. Kilpatrick who is no lionger commenting on the political scene.

I’m reading Sean Wilentz’s “Age of Reagan,” and now I despair of both sides.

    You takes your pick.

Oh, yeah. I guess the integrity does fall far from the tree. Gov. Palin’s 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. Yeah.

Maybe someone was too busy wondering what a Vice President does to have a conversation with her daughter about the birds and the bees.

In case you missed the the news on the last reference: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/29/sarah-palin-what-exactly_n_122514.html

You got a winner there, Marmie. A heartbeat away from the button.

I just feel sorry for the kid. What what would have been a very private matter is now national news, which, I hope, will pass quickly.

So what does integrity have to do with her daughter being pregnant? Was her main platform to get elected about teen pregnancy? No.

I think it’s a shame that personal attacks are “in vogue” for politics (and I’m not just talking about you, Denis – I’ve read this all over the ‘net today). I’d much rather spend time talking about specific issues of national importance – taxes, healthcare, foreign policy, welfare, social security, etc., than the fact that someone’s daughter is preggers or someone else’s son is gay or yet another person’s kid is gay and preggers. I also think it’s a shame that the woman’s DAUGHTER is now being trashed in the media, as opposed to focusing on the NATIONAL issues at hand. It’s no more acceptable than Chelsea Clinton hurtfully being called ugly when her dad was in office or Jenna Bush scornfully being called a skank a few years ago. It’s simply *unnecessary* and wrong and has NO BUSINESS in any talk about politics.

As for Palin, she is staunchly pro-life, and obviously her daughter feels the same way, as she is planning on getting married and having the child.

Thankfully Obama has declared the issue off limits.

Maybe civility is returning to national politics.

I can imagine that conversation. “You will get married or I will not become the vice president of the United States!” Wonder if the the father wants to get married? He certainly has a lot more leverage right now. Maybe he should have his lawyer draw up a pre-nup.

Denis, I’m surprised you are still talking about this since your own political candidate has said the topic is not for public consumption but instead a private family matter.
