Our home computer died a few days ago. I’m not happy since I had software on there that I can’t get back. Fortunately replacement will be easy since all we need is the actual CPU – we don’t need to replace our monitor, printer, scanner or any of that stuff.
Denis turned it in to The Geek Squad last week. It was working for a bit on Friday – it would go about 20 minutes before locking up. So I could have gone on and saved some stuff, but I didn’t because Denis was leary about me using the computer to do anything. And we also thought that Geek Squad would be able to help us.
Alas, instead they BROKE the computer. A piece in the CPU that was NOT broken when we turned it in (we know this because Denis opened up the computer last week to see if he could find the problem) was broken when Denis picked up the computer. Stupid Geek Squad – won’t be using them again. Denis says the hard drive is fine, it’s the motherboard that needs to be replaced. So we’re just going to get a new computer and Denis said there is a way that he can get the old hard drive to be read on the new computer. Don’t know about all that, but I’m sad that I lost some good software.
I know that Dad has moved hard drives between computers a lot, so don’t worry about lost stuff yet.
Jen, no problem getting the data on the new machine, but the programs won’t transfer. I’m 99% sure the Geek Squad made the problem worse, not that I think it could have been fixed even if they didn’t make it worse.
