This morning Glad-ball’s half of the bridal party got together for a spa day. I signed up for a manicure, a pedicure and a facial. I took the subway into DC rather than drive and walked the 3-4 blocks to the spa. It was early so I walked down the block to a cute little French cafe and had some crepes for breakkies. DELISH. I arrived at the spa promptly at 10 a.m. and found Glad-ball and the other two women checking in.
I was chosen first for the spa treatment and the other girls went in to begin their pedicures. I had a 50-minute facial that was wonderful. When it was done I said, “I don’t think my face has ever been this clean EVER.” This evening when I was getting ready to go to the rehearsal I felt guilty about putting on makeup and clogging up my newly cleansed pores!!
I was then led in to get my manicure and one of the other girls was chosen to go to her spa treatment. I picked a really girly pink for my manicure – something so completely Barbie pink as to be obnoxious. I knew CootieGirl would love it. Once my mani was done they moved me to the pedicure chair, where I promptly apologized to my handler and warned her that I’m anti-foot. She laughed and said that was okay and got to work. And I have to say – my feet look good! I’m still completely anti-foot, but I may start getting pedicures every few months as a treat to myself (although I may choose facials over pedis). My toes are the same bright pink as my fingernails. Will I start wearing sandals and showing off my feet? Absolutely not. But for tomorrow’s wedding, when I AM going to be wearing open-toed shoes, it will look nice.
While we were doing all the manis and pedis we began talking about eyebrow waxing and I told the story of when I had Mare-Bear take me to her salon and had the most painful eyebrow wax ever imagined. So bad that when Mare-Bear and I left the salon I burst into tears from the pain. The waxing part wasn’t so bad, it was the tweezing. ALL of the women in the room started assuring me that the woman obviously didn’t know what she was doing because any good eyebrow waxer will not NEED to pluck extensively. Long story short, they convinced me to get it done today, by the same woman that did my facial.
So I trucked back into Hannah’s room and she brought out her products. And I have to tell you – it didn’t hurt a bit. The waxing was fine and she only tweezed a little bit and it didn’t hurt at all. Mare-Bear’s lady in NYC must have been a sadist because I told Hannah that if the waxing six years ago had been ANYthing like today’s I would have been getting them done every so often.
So yeah, I could easily become a spa queen. Loved the facial, love the mani, didn’t mind the pedi, and the eyebrow thing was a success. Maybe next time I’ll go for one of those mudbath thingies…
