We may have finally reached a critical point in CootieBoy’s potty training. Moments after my post on Friday night discussing his progress, he had a major “accident.” And when I say major, I mean MAJOR. It was disgusting. We couldn’t help ourselves, and gave CootieBoy a major lecture, trying to drill it into his head: NOT IN YOUR UNDERPANTS – IT GOES IN THE POTTY.
We kept him in a pull-up yesterday in case he had more issues. But by the evening he was in regular underpants. He began making the sign for having to go potty, so I ushered him into the bathroom. He protested for a few minutes, but once again we left him alone in there and SURE ENOUGH he came running out a few moments later. “I did it! I went in the potty!” There was much cheering in the house. I had him sit down again just in case there was more, and after a few minutes we figured he was done. He got a shark tattoo and two pieces of candy for his reward. And while that was great, a couple hours later he had another accident which required a bath. *sigh*
So today after lunch I knew he’d be due again, and kept an eye on him. He eventually made the sign again (his sign: he lays his hand on his butt, as if willing it not to come out), and I only had to say, “Let’s go potty!” and off he went – no protesting. Within two minutes (and privacy) he was done and once again we had a mini celebration.
So he’s getting better. To have him go on the potty three times out of five is a major achievement.
