Seeing Red

I’m thinking about coloring my hair again. I’ve been letting my hair grow out so that I can see what it looks like natural (including the grey). But now that my “roots” are about 4-5 inches long, I find that my hair has NO BODY whatsoever – it’s flat as a pancake around my face and even when I used to blowdry it to get volume that volume would only last an hour and then my hair would be flat again. It’s ridiculous.

If I were to color my hair, it would plump up my hair and it wouldn’t be flat anymore. That’s the only reason why I’d color it. I actually like the grey a lot – I like where I it’s growing in and how much there is. But the time for a decision has come: do I want nice grey hair that’s flat, or colored hair with volume? And I think the choice is obvious: VOLUME VOLUME VOLUME.

So then the debate begins – do I go light blond, bright red, or brunette? I’m overdue for a haircut, and may splurge and get my hair professionally colored with the bright red and put in blond chunks. I always liked that particular dye job even though it was expensive to have for those six months I had it (I had to have it professionally redone every 6 weeks). And then I have to decide when to do it – most likely after pool season is over so that I don’t have to worry about chlorine messing up the color.

And that means another month to wait. I’ll live with flat hair for another month. *sigh*

You can get a lot of body by just simply doing highlights to go with your natural color. It would be very flattering on you. The upkeep isn’t as harsh or expensive. My two cents…

What Mom said. And I agree that color will definitely pump up the volume in your hair. It’s part of why I continue to color mine.

Ok, so I had to come over and comment cause…in the reader this shows up as being posted by Denis. And I had a good long chuckle over such hair-coloring indecision being the ponderings of a guy. (Not that guys don’t color their hair sometimes…I’m just guessing they don’t actually agonize over it.)

For all of that, let me be the 3rd to hop on the highlights bandwagon. They’re a good middle ground.

(And if it really IS Denis with the agony, I apologize for laughing.)

Hey, just a suggestion from another flat headed person (with gray hair!). I found that Big Sexy Hair products are absolutely awesome for fine hair. I use Root Pump and the hair spray (forget what that is called specifically right now). Anyway, it works great, it’s also pricey, but I buy mine from EBay.

Beth – hee. I posted that from Denis’ browser – I didn’t even think to change the authorship this morning! I think I’ll leave it as Denis’ entry. =)

Bev – Hair products off eBay? Now THAT’S funny. Is it really cheaper once you add in shipping?

It IS kind of weird, but you can save money if you’re
selective. It’s usually not a savings over retail if the
auction is for one can only, but multiples are. I
have kind of a rule that I will only purchase if it is a
30% savings, and that is usually about what I end up with.
