Last night I booked the flights we’re taking to Scotland in March 2007. I can’t believe the trip is only four months away! I’m very excited about it. The airfare was astronomical (Orbitz wanted $700 per person for one good itinerary that I saw that allowed a 20 hour layover in London), so I used some of my Visa points and got a $150 discount on one of the tickets, resulting in about $900 airfare for the two of us combined from Charlotte through London Gatwick into Glasgow.
Then today I began searching for hotels near Glasgow airport since on the night before we’re leaving we’ll need a hotel since our timeshare goes from Saturday to Saturday. And since our flight leaves at 6:10 a.m. we’ll need to be at the airport by 4:00 a.m.!! So I found a hotel near the airport that has 24-hour shuttle service, but I decided to turn in more miles to get a free night’s stay anywhere in the world in that particular chain of hotels, so I’ll book that once I receive the certificate code for the free night.
I then went to Orbitz and reserved a car to use during the week – it was hard to find an automatic with A/C, but I did. It’ll cost a bit more, but I refuse to drive ANYwhere without A/C. I could have handled having a manual drive car, but opted to pay a few extra bucks for automatic as well. I figure we’ll drop off the rental car on Saturday night before they close and use the hotel shuttle to go sleep until it’s time to fly home.
So now the researching begins to work out a plan for things to do while we’re there – places to go, places to eat (Gordon Ramsay’s Glasgow restaurant is a must while we’re there), things to do.
You definitly go to the Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow: http://www.willowtearooms.co.uk/
You’re not going to need that AC in the car in March in Scotland. You’re still going to need winter gear.
True dat, yo. I just checked yearly weather in Scotland and early March shows as being around 45 degrees on average! THAT ROCKS! *lol* I may change the car reservation to one without AC to save a few bucks then.
Yes, to the Willow Tea Rooms and, Jaynee, they serve breakfast all day so you don’t HAVE to have tea. 😉
