Scotland: Days 1 and 2

And so begins the entries all about our trip.

Friday, March 2:
Arrived at the airport nice and early and made it through pretty quickly. We did NOT need to be there that early (we sat around for a good 2 hours once we got through Security). The plane was huge but fortunately we were near the front. We all had individual tv screens with plenty of programming – movies, tv, music, news, etc. I slept a bit on the plane (after all, the flight left at 7:35 p.m. and was almost 8 hours long to London). We landed in London and it took forever to get through customs and the departure security line. In fact, it took so long we worried we might not make our connecting flight. However, we did make it with about 20 minutes to spare before boarding began, and arrived in Glasgow on Saturday morning without a hitch.

Saturday, March 3:
Getting out of the airport was another matter. We picked up our rental car, loaded up, and proceeded to spend a good 30 minutes driving within a couple miles of the airport because we just couldn’t find our way out! It didn’t help that we’d been traveling for 12+ hours, that our GPS wasn’t picking up our location, and my printed directions were gibberish. Plus driving on the other side of the road and wacky roundabouts all made it a miserable start. However, we finally crossed the Erskine Bridge and made our way out of Glasgow. Made it to the timeshare about an hour later but had to wait to get the key. So we drove back to Aberfoyle, the town that was 4 miles away, had a meal and called home to check in. The plan once we picked up the key was to unload the car and SLEEP. We got the key to the room and brought in our bags. The timeshare was nice – two bedrooms, a Murphy bed in the living room, and three bathrooms. Also – here’s the kicker – a private steam sauna!! We snoozed through the evening and watched some local television shows and basically did nothing for the remainder of the day/evening as we recovered from the long traveling.
