So today was my day to keep the kids out of the house for a few hours so that Denis could concentrate on my mom’s website. At about noon the three of us headed out and drove to the Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville, NC. It’s just over an hour away and features a long wagon ride through the property feeding animals like water buffalo, pigs, ostrichs, llamas, giraffes, zebras, camels, goats, deer, antelopes and an assortment of other animals. We went sometime after we first moved here and the kids had a great time. Since I couldn’t take them to the zoo (after all, we just went to one and are going to the SC zoo in a couple weeks), this seemed the logical choice for them to get their “wild animal” fill.
CootieBoy was much different than he was the last time we went. Last time he was fearless and tried to feed every animal that approached the wagon. This time around he was VERY concerned about CootieGirl – he didn’t want her to get bit and whenever an animal approached her, CootieBoy would grab at her and try and pull her away, screaming “CootieGirl get bit! CootieGirl get bit!” The overwrought concern was cute the first five minutes of the wagon ride, but after that it was just annoying and I took more than a few minutes to explain that the animals would NOT bite CootieGirl and that she was FEEDING THEM. He still didn’t want to participate.
However, near the end of the wagon ride (which lasts about an hour) we arrived at the area where the bison were. These ferocious looking animals were the ones he decided to try and feed. I had to laugh at the absurdity that he was afraid of CootieGirl feeding LLAMAS but had no problem reaching out his own hand to feed a bison.
And CootieGirl was the opposite of last time as well – last time she refused to feed the animals and this time she wished she had two buckets. She had no qualms about reaching out her hand to feed every animal that came by our side of the wagon. Needless to say we ran out of feed very quickly, and she wasn’t able to feed the last few animals we passed by.
I bought them each an ice cream which they devoured. They also played in the playground area for a while. We then piled into the car where they proceeded to bicker the whole way home while I turned up the music and sang at the top of my lungs. Good times.
I gave CootieBoy a haircut tonight. Rather than shaving his whole head to a short fuzz though, I used the longest comb that came with the clippers and actually managed to form it into a very cute haircut where it is short in back and about an inch long on top. There are only a couple areas where something weird happened because CootieBoy ducked or attempted to get away from me. In any event, very cute and less severe than the crewcut I’ve given him a few times over the past year.
