Review Time

My review is in 30 minutes. I HATE reviews. I know they serve a purpose, but I just absolutely hate them. Last year’s was ridiculous when Blondie Boss criticized me even though I had only worked for her for a month. Fortunately, this year I’ll only be reviewed by Mr. BIL, and I already know what he’ll say (need to be better about filing, need to be better about getting out client binders, don’t schedule meetings so close together), although I know for a fact that 1) it’s impossible to file what he doesn’t give me, 2) it’s impossible to have time to get out client binders when I’m caught up doing the other dozen things you HAVE TO GET OUT THAT DAY that end up not going out because even MORE things pop up, and 3) I always leave an hour between meetings – HE’S the one that puts in the extra ones in the middle. The only other thing I can think he’ll lecture me on is socializing with L-Train, but since Mr. BIL lectured me on that last week I’ve barely talked to her at all. But I really hope he doesn’t mention that at all since I don’t want anything to reflect poorly on L-Train if it doesn’t have to. She doesn’t deserve that at all.

I’m predicting a 3% raise. Last year I got 4% but something tells me I may only get 3% this year. So I’m not expecting 4%. I’m predicting I’ll get the same bonus as I got last year and WOULD be surprise if it’s lower than last year.

I do a good job here. I enjoy my job here. I like my boss, and in general like the work I do. I rarely have bad days and this is the ONLY job I’ve ever worked where I’ve volunteered to come in on the weekends as much as I have in the past. So I’ve got that goin’ for me.

Update at 11:44 a.m.: Review went well. He had only praise for my work and out of the 50 items on the checklist only FOUR said “outstanding” rather than “excellent.” Head HR Lady was stern with Mr. BIL and told him to get more organized and we immediately came up with a plan. We’re going to get him an outbox, and throughout the day he’ll put his notes in there that he is ready to file. Everyday at NOON (when he goes to lunch) I will then file everything in that box and then go to lunch myself. Also, since he gets in 30 minutes before I do, he has time to sift through emails and voicemails before I get in. So when I get in the first thing I’ll do after turning on my computer is go into his office with pad and paper and write down the list of things he wants to get out for the day. This way I can keep him on track, whereas before I never really knew what was the true priority for the day.

I got a 3.85% raise (meaning – the exact same $ amount I got last year), and the exact same bonus, which will get paid out in a couple weeks. I’m happy with that, especially since I was only expecting a 3% raise.
