It’s no secret around here that one of our favorite cities to visit is New Orleans. Between the art, the culture, the music and the food – there’s a lot to love about New Orleans. Denis in particular loves the authentic NOLA food (I do love a good po’boy and french toast at Petunia’s, but can’t take the super-spicy food that is popular in NOLA). Right now there’s a contest at www.GreatAmericanSeafoodCookOff.com where you can vote on five dishes that have been selected to represent New Orleans. Pick the winning entry and have your name drawn – and you win a free trip to NOLA! I’m ALL OVER THAT.
The recipe I want to win is the Texas Gulf Shrimp by Chef Mark Holley, who hails from (what else) Texas. To me it seems like the most accessible for those who don’t have adventurous pallets, but yet has a distinctive enough recipe that it would probably taste scrumptious. Shrimp, pear glaze and a tomato relish? Sounds heavenly! The recipe also includes arepas – which is cool because I just saw a special on HGTV all about arepas and I thought they looked tasty, too! The only part of the recipe I don’t like is the black beans, but those can be optional, so it doesn’t put me off the recipe at all.
This is the kind of cook off contest that Denis should enter. He’s a great cook, and even though he’s not a chef, he is creative with food and could have totally come up with something worthwhile for this seafood contest.
Speaking of seafood – HELLO. LOVE IT. I’d eat it everyday if I could. *lol* Which reminds me – the other night CootieGirl requested mussels for dinner. A girl after my own heart!! Now that Denis arrives home today, maybe we can have them in the next couple of days.
I’ve already entered the contest – the potential a free trip to NOLA is worth the try. Like I said, not only is there good food, but the whole atmosphere in the French Quarter is like no other. Entering the contest is certainly easy – just select the recipe you want to win and supply them with your email address. Voila! You are done! So go check out the recipes and enter the contest with the one you think will win.
Denis’ Shrimp and Grits ~ to die for!
