I never thought I’d lead off a post about getting up early – especially getting up early because of a SPORTS story on the NEWS. However, at 6:54 a.m. on Headline News this morning, the sports break was LED OFF by a basketball story about my own engine-that-could alma mater, Garder-Webb University, beating KENTUCKY last night. Of course, all the news stories are talking about Kentucky’s coach struggling, as opposed to the possibility that Gardner-Webb might have a great team this year.
A couple years ago they almost made it into the NCAA Tournament (they would have been ranked 16 – but hey, even George Mason University used to get laughed at when they managed to get in the tourney in the late 1990s and they went to what – Elite 8? – a couple years ago). So yes, sportswriters, it’s quite possible that this year GWU has a great team – they’ve one their first three games so far, which is a nice start. And this win over Kentucky – KENTUCKY, people – is sure to help carry their motivation and fire through the next few games.
We may have to pop over to GWU sometime this season for a game if they keep this up. It’s a good way to see our friends Noel and Beth, and some potentially good basketball as well.
In the meantime, because I was up so early, it also meant I was ready for work early – a full 30 minutes early, to be exact. So I figured I’d pop on here and post about the GW Bulldogs crushing the Wildcats last night. That’s just so crazy.
Yes, we should plan a trip over to see your friends and watch a GWU game. Find the schedule, talk to Beth and Noel and whoever else you can round up and let’s make a day of it one Saturday or Sunday. The kids will have fun too.
I’ve emailed Noel about the January 5th game – it’s not a huge team they are playing, but datewise it’s probably the best time for us.
GMU went to the Final Four last year.
I saw the news about GWU’s win this morning and nearly fell over laughing in disbelief. Loved hearing it!
Hey that’s right! It WAS last year for GMU (that’s when I went to the game in DC – it seems so long ago).
