I have to work today despite it being a near national holiday in honor of Prez Reagan’s funeral.
My bus, which normally has 20-25 people on it in the morning, had a mere 5 passengers this morning. I arrived at my stop in NYC at 7:45 a.m. – a full 15 minutes before we normally arrive, because there was no traffic. I was able to pick out my croissant and pay for it in 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes. I sat down at my desk promptly at 7:58 a.m. instead of 8:10 a.m.
Despite all that, I’ve been busy all morning, and it’s only 10:26 a.m.! I’ve scheduled a couple conference calls, I bound (binded?) some presentations for a conference next week, and also made some wacky edits to two documents for one of my guys.
The head cheese at our office had no idea it was a “holiday” today – the markets are closed, the banks and post office are closed, which means my company can’t do much work since we’re stockmarket-based. And yet we’re open and there’s NO talk of closing at 3 p.m.
J, how about you and I tippy-toe away from this taco stand we call work at about 3pm? You game?!
It all depends on this last presentation I’m working on for the conference. If I can get it finalized and begin printing today, then I’m all for it!!
How can the head cheese not know that today was a holiday? He live in a cave? No TV? No radio? No newspapers? Good grief.
I say get out when you can!
What holiday? Boy, it must be great working for the government and getting a free day off here and there every month.
