So apparently ‘Purple Rain’ ranks Number One on Vanity Fair’s “All Time Greatest Soundtracks” list. Do I agree? Absolutely! That soundtrack ROCKS!! The song “Purple Rain” is still one of my all-time favorite songs even 23 years after the movie’s release.
The rest of the top ten:
2. A Hard Day’s Night
3. The Harder They Come
4. Pulp Fiction
5. The Graduate
6. Superfly
7. Trainspotting
8. Saturday Night Fever
9. American Graffiti
10. The Big Chill
It’s a pretty decent Top 10, but I’m sad that “Xanadu” didn’t make it in the Top 10. 😉
And I’d like to announce that I have not one but TWO copies of the “Superfly” soundtrack – don’t ask me why, I have no idea. The “Trainspotting” soundtrack is WONDERFUL and was one of my favorite CDs the year it came out.
Vanity Fair is listing the entire list of 50 greatest soundtracks next month, and I’ll be curious to see what made the cut. Mary Poppins? Moulin Rouge? Across the Universe? Newsies?

… Fame, Flashdance, Grease, Footloose. In my personal opinion Purple Rain is far from #1.
