When we lived in our NoNJ house we had cheap aluminum blinds on most of the windows. The only place we splurged was the bay windows in the living room and sunroom, where we had cellular shades that were quite nice.
So imagine how happy I was when we bought the house here in SC that had really nice Faux Wood Blinds in the living room. They really make a difference in how I perceive the room. Today Denis opened up all the blinds to let in the light and the room just seemed to bloom between the light, the rich woods in the room, the red fireplace wall, and of course, the wonderful wood blinds on each window.
I definitely would like to invest in more faux wood blinds to go in other parts of the house. What I’d really love is some shutters – specifically a french door shutter for the door leading to the back deck. Right now that door has no covering on it and so at night I feel kind of vulnerable since it’s so easy to see into my house. Having the shutter door on there would allow me the flexibility to close it at night and not feel like I’m on display to my back neighbors.
I also like the idea of cafe-style shutters for the dining room. I’ve always liked cafe-style shutters in that they give privacy but yet allow in all that sunlight. Finishing those off with simple sheer curtains on either side would really make that room have a classy yet accessible look to it when people enter the room.
As for the upstairs part of the house, my only concern right now is the large picture window in our master bathroom. I have a cheap little half-curtain up there right now but would really prefer to have a really nice set of blinds so that I can still see the backyard without feeling like I’m exposed while I’m brushing my teeth or getting ready to take a shower.
So we’ll see. I’ve said many times that the home projects are on hold until we get some things paid off like the cars, CootieGirl’s daycare, etc. However, the blinds are so reasonably priced at that website that it almost seems like it might be worth it to invest in them sooner rather than later.
