Planning Vacations

My family is planning a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina next spring to see a relative get married, and have been looking into vacation rentals for the three couples and four kids that will be going to the wedding. It’s daunting to see what is out there, and I’ve been scouring the ‘net trying to find reputable websites that deal with vacation rentals. This week I mentioned my search to a co-worker and she recommended a website called VRBO.com that helped her find some Florida vacation homes to choose from when she went on vacation last year. She said her entire extended family of ten was able to get a house for a week near Disney World that was cheaper than the three hotel rooms they would have otherwise booked – and that included the Disney properties themselves. And they had the luxury of being in a private house rather than a loud connecting room near the ice machine. *lol*

Denis and I still hope to get to Miami Beach someday in the next few years, and timeshares are hard to come by down there since it’s a popular destination spot. Obviously there are good reasons to choose a vacation house over a hotel, too.

So I’ll most likely be using VRBO.com per Tina’s recommendation, and will look at not only the Florida possibilities, but the North Carolina possibilities as well. Especially since timeshares don’t seem to be available for either location unless you go in the middle of winter!!

We’ve used VRBO quite a bit…we’re always surprised at what a great deal we end up getting.

Yeah, my co-worker swears by them and they do have a lot of great listings. My mom has a lead on a couple places through friends of hers – so we’re still in research mode!

We just used VRBO to reserve a house in Colorado Springs for our anniversary trip in a couple of weeks. I love being able to stay in someone else’s house for a bit, without having to commit to a timeshare. 🙂
I found out about VRBO because my parents have their Estes Park cabin listed. 😉
