Panic People

People are all atwitter at my office this afternoon. An “emergency” meeting has been called for tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. for all non-attorney staff. I won’t lie – the word “layoffs” has been bandied about by those dreading the meeting. Although if they were going to lay anyone off I doubt they’d do it in front of 50 of their co-workers.

Given meetings in the past, I think this one will be a combination of neutral and bad news. Neutral news – we’re in the legal field so the company is doing okay. Bad news – the firm donations to the 401(k) plan will be crap this year. Neutral news – the holidays are coming so sign up for the Christmas committee. Bad news – not all of you will get the time off you requested. See what I mean? It won’t be a “happy days are here again” meeting, but I also don’t think it’ll be the Meeting Of Doom that some around here are predicting.

The bad news for me? Having to get here at 8:30 a.m. That sucks.

I have to start reading Cootiehog more often. I didn’t find out about this news until Jaynee told me this as she was getting out of bed this morning. To which she said, “Didn’t you read Cootiehog?” Ahhhh…I try. LOL

We’ve had some at our office. They were just told yesterday. So sad to see this happening, knowing it will be so hard for them to get a job in the future.
