Have I mentioned lately how much I love oysters? LOVE THEM. When Denis and I went to Savannah a few years ago I ate them by the steamed bucket during the four day trip. And whenever we went to New Orleans we’d both order Po’Boys (in fact, Denis made Po’Boys a few weeks ago for dinner). When he and I went out last week for our Valentine’s Day dinner I ordered two to enjoy with my dinner since I opted not to have an actual oyster entree. I think I got the Gulf oysters, although they may have been James River too. I can’t remember now. Anyway, I love oysters.
And now that I’m doing this new diet, I’m thinking about trying to do a meal plan that involves seafood almost exclusively. Shrimp, lobster, salmon, scallops, mussels, oysters, monkfish – there, that’s dinner seven days a week, y’all.
Be Oyster Aware has some awesome oyster recipes – Oysters Alfredo sounds DELISH even if the sauce would make it too high in calories for my starvation diet (I kid, I kid. 1300 calories isn’t starving yourself. 1200 is.).
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone I know finding something inside an oyster, but wasn’t it recently in the news where someone found a purple pearl? That would be COOL. Dude, if oysters were like cracker jack boxes, I’d be eating them every night in the hopes of finding something in an oyster. I’d take the pearls, but diamonds could be cool, too. *lol*
Anyway, I suppose I need to begin stocking up on seafood of all kinds if I’m going to try and stick to 1300 – 1500 calories a day. Do oysters have a “season”? I doubt it, right?
Oysters have as season.. I think its every month with an “R” in it. No really, I do believe that is the rule. Or maybe its every month without an R. Or maybe its “with an R” since we just had them in Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago.. .yeah, lets go with “every month with an R” 🙂 Oyster Stew is yummy, but that is made with Cream and butter, so that too is probably off your diet too. 🙁
Shrimp is very high in cholesterol. And Oysters are VERY expensive.

Denis, so glad you made that point! I was a bit concerned about the cholesterol. J, have you had yours checked lately? We have a hereditary issue with it, you know.
Marmie – my cholesterol was checked as part of the medical study. It was one of the medical factors that determined whether I could even participate in the weight loss study. I presume I had acceptable levels since I was admitted into the study yesterday.
