Opa!

Today we broke the monotony by going to the Greek Festival in Charlotte. Apparently it is a big event every year, running three or four days. Today was the last day and since a couple coworkers gave me some free tix, we thought we’d go.

Unfortunately, CootieBoy was too young to ride any of the rides, and CootieGirl got nervous about riding the ones she was big enough for. So the $10 we spent on ride tickets was a total waste of money.

What was NOT a waste of money, however, was the fabulous food. They were offering various plates of food that you could select – we opted for the Lamb tray which had 4-5 oz of lamb, a salad, bread, meatballs, and two or three true Greek concoctions. It was all very tasty, as were the two Greek pastries we bought. Then we went back out to the outdoor food booths where Denis bought a Gyro, followed by a Baklava Ice Cream sundae for the kids.

We were only there for a couple hours and it would have been much better if the kids had been into going on the rides. I’ll probably try to take them next year knowing that CootieBoy will finally be big enough and maybe CootieGirl won’t be so nervous about going on them since he’ll go on them with her. They had seven rides for the kids, face painting, wax hands, as well as a few dozen arts & crafts booths. We saw one beautiful handcarved Nativity set that I was interested in, until the vendor yelled at CootieGirl for touching some little wooden box that was nearby. At that point we left the booth and kept our money.

The rest of the day was uneventful – CootieBoy played quietly in his room rather than take a nap while CootieGirl went to the park with Denis for an hour or so. I gave CootieBoy another buzz haircut and CootieGirl was allowed to stay up until almost 10 p.m. I know that’s going to be a mistake because she is NOT going to want to wake up in the morning.
