On Being a Bridesmaid

So I’m in two weddings in December. First up is my pal Mare-Bear getting hitched in early December, and then my sister going through nuptuals on New Year’s Eve.

Today I received in the mail my dress for Mare-Bear’s wedding. She warned me that it was big, and she wasn’t kidding. The thing is HUGE on me. I really think the store ordered the dress too large. Yes, it will need to be altered, I knew that going into it, but to have more than three inches removed on BOTH SIDES of my waist and at least 4 inches from the butt and don’t even get me STARTED on the whole bust area (the dress presumes I’m a EE or something)…I fear the amount of alterations needed will make the dress look completely WRONG because so much of it has to be removed. I fear the hemlines will not look right at all.

Having said that, the dress is absolutely gorgeous and I wish I was a size 6 because I’m sure the thin version of the dress is amazing.

Tomorrow I will be heading to my local YMCA to sign up for a year’s membership. They open at 5:30 a.m. every weekday morning. Since I’m so used to getting up at 6 a.m. with CootieBoy nowadays, maybe I can talk myself into stumbling out of bed at 5:45 a.m., get to the gym by 6 a.m., workout for 45 minutes and be home by 7 a.m. to get ready for work. Then on weekends I’ll do the Y’s pool for an hour. My goal? Lose 7-10 more pounds before I begin having this dress altered in early November.

I gave your measurements to the Demetrios Bridal Salon and that was the size dress they came up with. If you want to change it, call Macy’s at 212-494-3330 and explain the situation to them, maybe they might be able to assist you, by getting a smaller size possibly?? I really have no idea how that would work …. this is why I wanted you to COME WITH ME 🙁

Weird that it would be so off if you gave them measurements. I wonder if you measured incorrectly?

No, the measurements are correct because I had the lady do each one twice to ensure the right number. All I can think is that based on my hip size I was slightly over for the next size down and they had no choice but to send the dress they sent.
