Before I left on vacation I worked on a presentation for a pitch that my company was doing for a Very Large Deal. Apparently the company we pitched to had complained that our presentations weren’t very professional-looking. So The Prez and another honcho asked me to work on the presentation to spiff it up a bit. I didn’t really do too much – I basically just made the slides match (the original had different fonts on different pages – one of my pet peeves). I also streamlined a few things so that it would flow better (they were trying to jam too many bullet points on one page when two pages would have been better).
Two days after leaving for vacation and one day after their pitch with the book I created, the Client opted to go with The Company for their business. Since I was gone all last week when the happy news came in, I figured my contribution was appreciated but would go unnoticed.
Not this company! Not The Company! Oh no – they don’t let 10 days of vacation interfere with their damned insufferable ENCOURAGEMENT! About midday, Honcho came over and said, “Hey, I wanted to let you know that your presentation went over really well and I appreciate your willingness to work on it before you went on vacation. We got a great deal because of it, so thanks.”
Wheeee!!! :cheer:
In other good news, The Company has officially left the phone dark ages and we now have beautiful new Avaya phones at our desks. I went to a training session this morning and felt a bit gloaty over the fact that I already knew everything about the phones. The only new wizardry that my old company’s phones didn’t have: the Whisper option. It allows me to “whisper” in Mr. Russell’s ear while he’s on a call to announce another call coming in. The person on the other line doesn’t hear a thing, and Mr. Russell can end his call and take the second call without ever letting on. Very cool function.
Ooooh…I want the whisper function!! 🙂
And, congrats! :cheer:
