New Rule for the House

Today I spent a couple hours cleaning out the garage. We had piles and piles of crap that were so large that there was no telling just what was in there. So once CootieBoy was down for a nap and CootieGirl settled in front of the tv watching “Dora the Explorer”, I opened the garage door and started taking stuff out and throwing away anything I considered to be garbage.

It was rather cathartic – I found papers I didn’t need, notebooks that were useless, calendars at least three years old, and numerous pieces of junk that got tossed. I filled one trash can, 1 1/2 extra large lawn bags and also had other miscellaneous items.

The things I discovered that made me realize how badly it needed cleaning: Two large piles of grass seed that had been turned into homes for mice. It’s a wonder we haven’t had MORE mice in our house over the years (we’ve had four in five years). And the lesson learned is that we will NEVER have ANY form of grass seed in our garage again. EVER. It was so nasty to clean that stuff up that by the time I was done with the whole garage I felt disgustingly dirty and immediately took a shower.

Once the garage was cleaned up I was able to create a small pile for a future garage sale and plan on adding to that pile in time for the annual sale that my neighbors do. I also created a section of baby stuff to give my mom to take to my sister in May. I know my sister is going to say she doesn’t want it because she wants NEW stuff for her precious child-to-be, but too bad – it’s a way to save money for her and a way to get rid of clutter for us.

Hey! I didn’t say I wanted all new stuff for our baby, but there are certain things that I want to be new since we’ll need them for any other children we have later (like the stroller and car seats). But I’ll take what you have to offer, thank you.
