New Kitchen..and New Category

We have a new category at Cootiehog! I started one called Building a House so that the “Moving Down South” category doesn’t become clogged with non-move-related posts.

Here is a new kitchen layout which I came up with tonight:

What is that little room between the half bath and the master bedroom suite at the top of this plan? I think you need to remove that stool nearest the fishtank. I don’ think there’s going to be enough room for that person to do anything at the counter. Otherwise, looking good. Is 2’10” wide enough for that one pathway?

I think you should have an additional Sink on the Island next to the Oven… Also, does this mean you have gotten rid of one of the ovens… I liked the idea of having two ovens in a Kitchen.

No prep sink on the island.

I agree about removing the fourth stool – obviously that’s not part of the STRUCTURE of the kitchen, but I’ll take it out nonetheless.

I’ve also been given some advice about oven placement – I originally had two ovens and removed it, but I’m going to put the second back in, and have it be in the island next to the cooktop. This way Denis will have the whole upper kitchen as his cooking workspace and I’ll have the lower portion as my baking workspace.

Denis – the “little room” is the alcove that connects the garage to the house, with doors to the 1/2 bath and the other door to our master suite.

And the typical minimum width from an island is 3′, so I think 2’10” comes close enough.

How are you gonna vent the oven? I suppose you could use a downdraft oven like Jenn-Air, and through the floor?

I like the idea of two ovens. Thanks. Why do I think this house is going to cost us more than we think? LOL

Well, we’ve said all along that if it gets expenses we’ll cut down on quality on things.

I.E. No granite or marble countertops to start – we’ll stick with laminate.
I.E. The library will not have built-ins to start, but just my various bookshelves that I currently own.
I.E. No fancy appliances, just regular ones.
I.E. No fancy bathroom fixtures, just average ones.
I.E. The cheaper of the two: carpet or hardwoods.

    and etc.
