Okay, so my cubicle is almost done being set up. And it SUCKS. I’ll be on complete public display because my cube is basically IN THE HALLWAY. And not just any hallway, but the most active one on this floor. I’ve taken a picture with my cellphone and will post it tonight. It’s horrific. When KK walked by with me she just started laughing and said, “Well I don’t feel so bad about my location anymore.”
I hope to God it’s not permanent. KK told me that all of this construction going on was to make more room for people they’ve recently hired. Apparently they spent all last year trying to find a new office space to no avail. They opted to renew the lease and renovate. Well, from what I can see now that the reno is almost done they only have ONE empty executive office (the one I’m currently occupying) and THREE cubicles (not including my new one that is basically in the filing cabinet area of the hallway). So they can only hire four more people and then they’ve officially filled the entire space. What will they do then? KK said they’ve already reduced the workspace for most of the employees (she described her original cubicle and it sounded palacial compared to what she has now).
I presume I’ll be in my new space by next Monday. I’ll let you know how it goes – I’m determined to make my computer more private than the setup they have for me. I’m determined to have my back face the wall, not my cubicle entryway.
Update at 12:46 p.m.: I take it back – I’m moving into the cube tomorrow morning. They actually said they could move me today but I said don’t bother. Tonight before I leave I’ll move all my personal stuff over there so that all the IT guys have to move tomorrow morning is my PC.
