Is this movie fabulous? No. Is it entertaining? Yes. Is Meryl Streep worthy of an Oscar nod for her portrayal of cold fish Miranda Priestley? Hmmm…I’m not sure.
This fluffy movie, based on the best-selling book (which I loved) about a fashion-ignorant girl going to work as the second assistant to the most powerful and demanding magazine editor in the world, is a nice no-nonsense Friday night flick. The story has been modified from the book, but not to its total detriment. I had read already about the scenes that tried to make Miranda more human, and I didn’t find them out of place in the movie at all. Even bitcas have feelings some of the time.
The stand out for me was actually Anne Hathaway, teen star from “The Princess Diaries”. She’s grown into a nice actress and I thought her part in the movie was exceedingly well done. Stanley Tucci is entertaining as ever as the magazine layout editor, as well.
As for Meryl Streep, yes she was quite good in the role, but I don’t know that it deserved an Oscar nod. I think it was a gimme for some reason, which is odd considering there were probably other actresses out there with meatier roles that deserved the nod in her place.
But it was still a fun movie.

what it ‘bitcas’?
Linda – it’s from the TV show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”:
Willow: “I mean, why else would she be acting like such a b-i-t-c-h?”
Giles: “Willow, I think we’re all a little too old to be spelling things out.”
Xander: “A bitca?”
