A lot of people may only know “The Chorus” from the fact that Beyonce sang one of the movie’s songs at the Oscars last year. This is acharming little French film about a teacher at a boys’ reformatory school in the 1950s who transforms a bunch of hooligans into a talented chorus.
A lot of people hate French films (myself included – hello “Amelie”), however this one makes me believe that maybe there ARE some good French films out there. I thought this movie was fabulous and is well worth the rental.

Hey there. I was searching for a particular song that I’ve yearned for years and came across your website. May I request a song from you?
“Gay Dad – Joy”
I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me the mp3. Thanks.
I’ll have to look and see if I have it – if I do, consider it done!
The problem with French films is that they are in french, and a lot of people don’t speak french.French cinema is more about dialogues (BLA BLA BLA) and one loses the subtility of it with subtitles witch are must of the time really bad or missing the point…
In The Chorus the actings are just so wrong…just a cheezy story with a happy ending…more close from the american films really (you know, the good old baseball team from the getto wich finally makes it through to the final….yak!.)
it’s too bad you “hate” french cinema but if you liked the Chorus ….well, maybe you’ve just got bad tastes…
Nez, on the contary – I don’t necessarily hate ALL French films – just bad ones that people feel compelled to applaud. There are a few French films that I enjoyed, I’m sure. Can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I’m sure they are out there.
I disagree that The Chorus was a cheesy movie with a happy ending. I also think that subtitles can still be effective in talky French movies.
Bad taste in movies? Nah, but I’m forgiving with fluff movies and critical of “art” movies.
