Movie: Talledega Nights – The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

It’s disheartening to watch a Will Farrell movie that isn’t funny. Watching “Elf” on tv last night made me realize just how unfunny some Will Farrell movies can be. Case in point: Talledega Nights.

Now, I’ve read some reviews that said the unrated/uncut version (which we watched) was not as good as the theatrical release because it cut some funny scenes while adding in new ones that didn’t make the original cut for very good reason.

Despite reading those comments, I still can’t help but think I wouldn’t have liked the original cut either. The kids in the movie were rude and ill-behaved, and played up for humor, but the joke got old VERY quickly and I didn’t find the smart-mouthed kids to be funny at all. Gary Cole, playing Ricky Bobby’s daddy, was very funny. He’ll always be two three characters in my mind: Mike Brady, Lumburgh, and the Green Beret murderer in “Fatal Vision”, but his role as Ricky Bobby’s Dad will be a close third fourth.

I guess I laughed a handful of times, but I didn’t find it as funny as “Anchorman,” “Elf,” or even “Old School.”

2 product placements out of five.

LOL.. we watched ELF on Saturday and each time a commercial came on I said “I am so ready to go upstairs and just put the DVD in”… but I never did.

Elf is a Classic Christmas Movie and I laugh every time I watch it.
