It doesn’t happen often, but today I went to see a movie in an actual movie theater. And not only THAT, but I broke my CARDINAL RULE and took CootieBoy with me. Yes, I took an almost-three-year-old to a movie a full two years before I believe kids should be in movie theaters.
And you know what? He did GREAT. He sat through 15 minutes of previews (next time I take a kid to a movie I’ll show up ten minutes late to avoid that), then managed to get through the first 1 hr 15 min of the actual movie before he turned to me and said, “I wanna go home.” We took a quick 90 second walk around the lobby and went back in, where he sat quietly through the remainder of the movie.
Nary a peep. Nary a complaint. Very little boredom (although towards the end it was a bit dicey when we ran out of the juice and Twizzlers I had been very slowly giving him throughout the show).
As for my thoughts on the movie, I thought it was well done. Not the best Pixar movie, but very enjoyable and ranks high on the list. Maybe third?
It’s the tale of Remy, a gourmet mouse who refuses to dine on trash like his family. He ends up in Paris and befriends a young man working in a restaurant but with no talent. They team up and voila – haute cuisine is born!!
Patton Oswalt, a very funny comedian (and actor on “King of Queens”), voices Remy the Rat. And by not knowing who the other voices were I was able to enjoy the movie without fixating on any one character’s voiceover actor. There were plenty of fun moments although I really only laughed out loud a few times. But that may have been due to my date, whom I felt obligated to check in with now and again to make sure HE was enjoying it.
The movie date was so successful that I may see if everyone feels like going to see “Shrek 3” tomorrow – as in, ALL FOUR OF US. Scary thought, but it could be fun!
