Movie: Poseidon

There’s nothing like a good disaster flick. With lowered expectations, high cheese factor, and great special effects, “Poseidon” didn’t disappoint.

C’mon – I’m not highbrow. I don’t expect Shakespeare from my disaster movies. Yes, “Titanic” kind of ruined it for all other disaster filmmakers by actually making a GOOD movie (c’mon – you know it’s good), but if you grade with a curve for all OTHER disaster flicks, this one is fun.

A plethora of attractive people are in the cast – Kurt Russell, Emmy Rossom, Jacinda Barrett, Kevin Dillon (who I can’t help but think is just as dumb as his older brother Matt), Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfus, that chick from “Alias”, etc. We all know the story from the original, which is one of my favorite movies of all time (hello Gene Hackman!). Ship turns upside down, a few brave souls attempt to find a way out before it’s too late.

I won’t go into details, but I just want to say I enjoyed the ride. I found myself holding my breath during the underwater scenes (it can’t be helped when Kurt Russell make a particularly long heroic swim). Sure it was overacted (although Kurt Russell didn’t chew the scenery nearly as much as Josh Lucas. It was a wonder he could talk with all those bits of boat in his mouth), but as I said – I’m not expecting Shakespeare.

3 1/2 cries of “Shake him off!” out of five.

I wondered what your star substitute would be. That’s hilarious. And I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I agree with you in some points.
The film is absolutely worth to be seen.
The underwater scenes of this movie are gorgeous.

i am so upset with posiedon, i wanted to dethrone tom cruise and MI3. the less money mi3 makes hopefully the less weird tom cruise will behave.

If I see this movie, should I watch the old one, first?

They are both completely different movies, so it doesn’t matter which one you see first. NONE of the characters are the same, and the movie ends differently as well. I wouldn’t even call the new one a “remake” due to so many differences!
